You Don’t Need Another Hero

Published: July 1, 2020, 7 a.m.

I’m so inspired by the people around me — my clients, my family, my husband, and my students. We’re still seeing some tough things in the world, and witnessing my people carry on doing “normal” things during these tough times is inspiring and a reason to celebrate.

I see parents keeping dinner on the table and keeping the kids busy, pet owners who are attentive to your pet’s needs, businesses who are still serving customers, neighbors who are checking in on one another, you are all amazing and you rock!

And if you’re tending to yourself — whether that means giving yourself some grace and a bit of a break or you’re upping the ante in your self-improvement journey — you have my utmost admiration and respect. Just make sure you’re taking your cues from you — not from some inspiring blog post you read or from someone else’s book or program.

Don’t let anyone “should” on you with what they think you’re supposed to do. All the answers you need are within you. You don’t need anyone else to save you.

You — and you alone — are the hero of your story.

You don’t need another hero. Here are some ways to keep putting YOU at the top of the list:

  • Stand tall in your magnificence.
Because, yes, you are magnificent. Avoid comparing yourself to others. The best person to compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday. Ask, “What could I achieve if I stood tall in my greatness?”

  • Keep doing what empowers you.
Focus on the things that let you feel powerful. If you’re struggling to think of things that make you feel empowered, look for things that make you feel good — not just good in the moment but good on the other side of doing them. Nurture that “I’m in charge of my results” feeling.

  • Honor your gifts and talents by using them.
Doing so will lead to the greatest success you could possibly imagine. Your gifts are what make you unique, and when you use them, you become more like yourself.
  • Be brave.
Take calculated risks. Brave things don’t have to be dangerous or panic-inducing. Start small. Simply start.

  • Choose love.
Doing so calms the nervous system. Choosing loves means accepting others just as they are, recognizing they’re doing the best they can with the resources and knowledge they have. Choosing love means loving self and loving others without expecting anything in return.

When we can operate from a place of love, we find the hero within. Only then, will we become who we were meant to be.

And when you do — the world will become a more beautiful place.
