Medicare was not designed to cover long term care (nursing homes) insurance; therefore, it does not cover long term care. It does cover care in a skilled nursing facility. These are the differences between the two types of care:
\\n\\xb7 Long-term care is a range of services and support for your personal care needs. Most long-term care isn\'t medical care. Instead, most long-term care is help with basic personal tasks of everyday life, sometimes called activities of daily living.
\\n\\xb7 Skilled care is nursing and therapy care that can only be safely and effectively performed by, or under the supervision of, professionals or technical personnel. Its health care given when you need skilled nursing or skilled therapy to treat, manage, and observe your condition, and evaluate your care.
\\nMedicare will cover your medical bills if you are hospitalized or have to see the doctor while living in the facility but it will not cover your actual stay in the nursing home.
