The Beths

In August of last year, a band from New Zealand called The Beths released their debut album, the honest, power-pop trip Future Me Hates Me. Later, we named them "the best new band of 2018": https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2018/12/the-beths-are-pastes-best-new-band-of-2018.html. Frontwoman Elizabeth Stokes and her high school friend, Jonathan Pierce, formed the band with mates Benjamin Sinclair and Ivan Luketina-Johnston while studying jazz in college. Stokes left her job as a music teacher to tour with The Beths. During this year's South By Southwest we hosted The Beths for a session at the Riverview Bungalow in Austin, Texas. They played acoustic, stripped-down versions of three songs from Future Me Hates Me: the title track, "Little Death" and "Happy Unhappy." Hear the session in the podcast, and read our entire list of 2018's best new artists right "here": https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2018/12/the-20-best-new-artists-of-2018.html.
