Today we\u2019re in a new month!\xa0 August was named in honor of Augustus Caesar in the year eight before the common era (8 BCE).\xa0 In Lithuanian this month is rugpj\u016btis, named after the word for rye, rugiai and pjauti, to cut.\xa0 It\u2019s rye cutting month.

Here\u2019s some food for thought.\xa0 I remind people not to refer to Lithuania as a former part of the Soviet Union.\xa0 Calling Lithuania a nation that was once part of the Soviet Union or as the former Soviet Republic Lithuania sounds like Lithuania and Russia went through an amical divorce.\xa0 It\u2019s like saying to a Frenchman or Dutchman, hey, aren\u2019t you guys formerly part of the Nazi Empire?\xa0 Nah, don\u2019t do it, it won\u2019t make you any new friends.

In past episodes we practiced a lot of possession using the genitive case or kilmininkas such as the wife\u2019s name, \u017emonos vardas, or Egl\u0117\u2019s husband, Egl\u0117s vyras.

Today we\u2019ll tackle the genitive in the plural such as the women\u2019s restroom, or the restroom of many women, the countries\u2018 history, as in the history of many countries, the car factory, or the factory which has many cars. You\u2019ll be happy to know it\u2019s easily learned with little study.\xa0 On this episode we\u2019ll focus on feminine nouns.

Keep in mind that \u0173 nosin\u0117 and \u016b ilgoji sound the same; they both have the long -oo sound.\xa0 For plural genitive we use \u0173 nosin\u0117 to be grammatically correct.
