Have you seen the Lithuanian Language Lessons from the Sydney Lithuanian Information Centre or SLIC?\xa0 These are fun on-line lessons in the Lithuanian language created by Australian-Lithuanians and they\u2019re free.\xa0 There are a total of 24 lessons and there are many audio clips you can access by clicking on a small piece of amber.\xa0 The lessons are also available on a cd for purchase from the Australian organization, although I heard somewhere they may be running low or out of them by now.\xa0 Go ahead and check it out at www.slic.org.au and click on the link in the upper left hand corner for \u201cLithuanian Language Lessons."\xa0 We think you\u2019ll like them.\xa0

On today\u2019s episode we\u2019re going to go over some ways to say thank you for some things, but first let me tell you about Damien from Tours, France.\xa0 Sorry for my pronunciation.\xa0 I don\u2019t speak much French.\xa0 Damien was invited to speak in Vilnius at an opera seminar.\xa0 He got to use some of the Lithuanian he used from Lithuanian Out Loud including a sentence he was able to use from episode 32.\xa0 Damien was kind enough to ring us up and leave a message on our voicemail.\xa0 So, Damien, tell us about your trip to Vilnius\u2026

Hello everybody, this is Damien from Tours, France and you\u2019re listening to Lithuanian Out Loud with Raminta and Jack, enjoy!

I\u2019m a French musicologist and I work in Tours, in the Loire Valley. \xa0A few weeks ago I got a wonderful invitation to go to Vilnius and hold a lecture on Gluck\u2019s Orfeo during a seminar for musicologists and music critics organized by the Opera and Ballet Theater of Vilnius at the beginning of December.\xa0 I was very flattered that they sought me and above all I was very excited to go there because it\u2019s not every day you\u2019re invited to such a place like Vilnius.\xa0 That\u2019s why I made some research on the internet on the Lithuanian language and that\u2019s how I found out about the podcast, Lithuanian Out Loud.\xa0 But, unfortunately, I only had one month to prepare myself and as you can imagine most of my time was focused on the presentation I had to prepare so I had only a little time to learn some Lithuanian and I think the only thing I was able to learn was laba diena, labukas, which I like particularly, and of course, a\u010di\u016b, which is so funny.\xa0 I also liked a lot, pra\u0161om, just because of the sound of the word, but I never got to say it.\xa0 Anyway, thanks to Lithuanian Out Loud and I really would like to thank Jack and Raminta for their help.\xa0 I could greet the audience in Lithuanian and I said, \u201cLaba diena ponai ir ponios, a\u0161 nor\u0117\u010diau visiems pad\u0117koti kad susirinkote \u010dia."\xa0 Now I have to say what I discovered there was above my highest expectations.\xa0 I mean the beauty of the old city, the charm of the small houses, churches, streets, how nice and welcoming people were with me.\xa0 It\u2019s been definitely a great experience for me and being a musicologist I must say I was struck by the intensity and the quality of the cultural life in Vilnius.\xa0 Every night I was invited to a different show and I thought they were quite interesting.
