REFLECT in self-defense has to do with mirroring the motions, extremities or speed of an attacker. In the case of a front choke the defender mirrors or matches the hands of the attacker to easily push them harmlessly out of the way while escaping.

There is also the REFLECTIVE listening and response a defender uses in LEAPS L.E.A.P.S. an acronym for the technique of “Listening, Empathizing, Asking Questions, Paraphrasing, and Summarizing police officers are trained in, and to use when talking down aggressive persons in volatile situations.

In Life Defense we can easily see it is this REFLECTION to any situation that gives us an advantage when dealing with conflict. “Bob, I hear what you are saying…do you mind me asking…? So what you want is….and if we can accomplish XYZ that might work for you?

In Life we might also REFLECT ourselves and what we actually want to create in our lives, relationships, or businesses. If we can create new outcomes in battle scenarios with aggressive attackers, what is possible in our own lives?

Remember to Listen, Empathize, Ask Questions, Paraphrase, Summarize, and most of all, in life, REFLECT.
