\\u2022Apollo Record Label was a New York City record label founded in the 1944 by Hy Siegel and Ted Gottlieb.\\xa0 The following year in 1945 it was sold to Ike\\nand Bess Berman. Apollo Records was named for the Apollo Theater which was nearby the record\\nlabel\\u2019s offices and studio.\\xa0 \\n\\n\\u2022Apollo was known for blues, doo-wop, gospel, jazz and rock & roll, however the genre which took off and main staged the others was gospel music during its highlighted years with the signing of Mahalia Jackson.\\xa0 They also had other gospel groups such as the Roberta Martin Singers, Alex Bradford and the Alex\\nBradford singers to name a few.\\xa0 The label also had Dinah Washington (who began her career singing gospel with Sallie Martin Singers).\\n\\n\\u2022Apollo also featured Doo-Wop and Jazz and for a brief time had Dean martin signed to the label.\\n\\n\\u2022Bess Berman who was one of the owners who eventually took the lead becoming a force in the music industry being the only woman in that position during the 1940\\u201ds.
