The ones you mark as spam or, if you aren\\u2019t too lazy the ones you unsubscribe from (but somehow they keep coming!!!). Anyway. Now you run your own company. And you\\u2019ve totally signed up for a Mailchimp account so you can start being THAT company. *Insert dramatic nnoooooo and drop to knees shaking fists in the air here* The truth of the matter is, commercial electronic advertising is an important way to remind your followers and fans that you exist and that you have big things coming down the pipe. What is commercial electronic advertising, you ask? It\\u2019s those emails and text messages you send to promote your business. But before you start getting email ad happy, there are a few things you need to know about.

1\\ufe0f\\u20e3 Spam Act 2003 (Cth) is an Act passed by the Australian Parliament that regulates commercial email and other kinds of commercial electronic messages like text messages. Basically, this prohibits you from sending commercial electronic messages.\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800\\u2800

2\\ufe0f\\u20e3 The Spam Act has 3 key rules to stay legal. You need permission and/or consent to send your message, you can\\u2019t just blast someone who didn\\u2019t give you permission. You must include your contact information and you have to give the option to unsubscribe to the recipient on the message sent.\\xa0

3\\ufe0f\\u20e3 Exemptions exist if you\\u2019re a registered political party, governing body or a charity. In some cases too if you\\u2019re a place of education.

4\\ufe0f\\u20e3 If you get caught breaking these rules, you could owe a pretty penny.

So pay attention. Get permission. Then tell your followers how awesome you are!
