Legally Unfiltered - Forced By The Government To Work Without Pay

Published: Jan. 23, 2019, 4:30 p.m.

"Get a Good Job with Full Pay and You're OK." When Roger Waters penned that line from the classic Pink Floyd song "Money," I'm pretty sure he would have never envisioned a United States Government shutdown that has lasted as long as the one happening right now in 2019. \n\nOur federal spending system is currently on hold because of the two parties being entrenched in their arguments. Regardless of where you stand politically, you have to accept and realize that real people are being affected by this stalemate. Real families are having to do without things because paychecks have stopped coming in. To top it all off, some of these furloughed employees are now being told they have to report to work WITHOUT PAY. Yes, we need the government to operate at some level to ensure the greater good, but are we willing to essentially conscript over 40,000 employees to do so? They could be working a temp job to make ends meet during the furlough, but not if they are made to work without pay. \n\nHow can this affect those of us who don't work for Uncle Sam? If it doesn't matter to you now, there is a good chance that the shutdown will put you in its crosshairs at some point. Check out this episode of Legally Unfiltered to find out how as Franz and Richard walk us through this growing problem.
