Ishmael Beah was a child soldier in Sierra Leone and survived to speak the unspeakable, writing about the horrors of war and how as a child he overcame the hijacking of his childhood in his best seller, A Long Way Gone. In her work for the UN, Priscillia Kounkou Hoveyda negotiated with a dozen terrorist groups across Africa to secure the release of over 1,000 child soldiers and helped reintegrate girls used as weapons of war into their communities. Together they are raising their own children in California. Find out how they got from there to here, and how they carry the children they were and the children they’ve known with them into their own lives and family.
