Jim and Spock's gentleness with each other contrasted against the harshness of the events happening to them directly and around them is so wonderful to read. Their gentleness and their protection of each other makes the part where Jim is forced to experience Pon Farr without Spock so much more effective and heart wrenching. Is that kind of reaction something you planned from the beginning?
