Happy to introduce Episode 11 of Environmental Professionals. This episode is about Conservation Psychology. Stephanie Klarmann, M.A., is a PhD candidate at the University of Johannesburg. Her research interests focus on taking a South African perspective on conservation issues, skills development and our relationships with nature. In pursuing a doctoral degree, she aims to emphasise the important role conservation psychology can have in the South African context by exploring the mutually beneficial ways in which youth can protect our natural heritage and explore employment opportunities in conservation and tourism. Since her psychology studies began as an undergraduate student, she has explored ways in which psychology can be combined with environmental issues, and the link between human wellbeing and behaviour. Stephanie has extensive experience as a high school educator and is therefore pursuing research in skills development in conservation for previously disadvantaged youth. She is also a National Geographic Certified Educator, an ambassador for Youth for Lions/Blood Lions, and a wildlife photographer.
