Justin\\xa0Young\\xa0began in music as a drummer and was introduced to a wide array of styles - from R&B and pop to jazz and gospel \\u2013 by his father,\\xa0Jim\\xa0Young, who led and played in a variety of bands, encouraging his scion to play sax. Landing his first professional concert at age sixteen,\\xa0Young\\xa0put himself through\\xa0Michigan State University\\xa0by playing weekend gigs. He issued his debut album, \\u201cRendezvous,\\u201d in 2003. After winning a competition at the famed\\xa0Capital Jazz Fest\\xa0in 2007, he released \\u201cOn The Way.\\u201d A move to Southern California helped his following multiply quickly when he booked a year-long residency at\\xa0Spaghettini, a hot spot for the contemporary jazz crowd south of Los Angeles. Gigs on the national festival circuit ensued as did subsequent recordings, \\u201cHome for the Holidays\\u201d and \\u201cNothin\\u2019 But Love.\\u201d\\xa0
For over a decade, he\\u2019s put out quality soul-jazz albums, but his forthcoming disc, \\u201cBlue Soul,\\u201d captures an artist hitting his stride on the cusp of a major breakthrough. Mining his Detroit roots,\\xa0Young\\u2019s fourth album, dueNovember 17\\xa0via\\xa0JustnTime Records, features a dozen new songs recorded live in the studio with premier musicians, producers and songwriting collaborators. Paving the way for the collection is the new single, \\u201cHigh Definition,\\u201d a vibrant R&B/pop confection just shipped to radio stations, a tune that\\xa0Young\\xa0penned with fellow soul-jazz saxmanJackiem Joyner\\xa0and keyboardist\\xa0Matt Godina.\\xa0\\xa0\\xa0
