After a huge success last year in Montreal, acclaimed Celtic Folk-Rock group, Mariner\\u2019s Curse, have joined together, with Scotland\\u2019s own Craig Weir in an encore presentation of their hit show THE STOWAWAY which, in collaboration with the Canadian Celtic Collective, is coming to THE OTTAWA LITTLE THEATRE for one night only, on August 1.This exciting production, highlights the group\\u2019s own particular blend of\\xa0 traditional and original Celtic/Folk/Rock music fusing the songs and sounds of the Maritimes, French Canada, Scotland, Ireland and England.\\xa0 Add to the mix, Scottish singer-songwriter and virtuoso piper, Craig Weir and you get an exciting evening of music which is, at once stirring and electrifying.Mariner\\u2019s Curse are a popular Montreal band whose high energy performances continue to draw audiences from Montreal to Quebec City, Ontario and the Maritimes and whose members include Ron Jenkins on keyboard, Rocky Dalonzo on lead guitar, drummer, Thierry Arsenault and master fiddlers Alex Kehler and Jonathan Moorman. They each bring their own musical styles and vibrant vocals to a wide repertoire of songs which include re workings of traditional Canadian and Celtic folk classics, from Stan Rogers to Great Big Sea, as well as their own original compositions, which are set to become classics in their own right.Craig Weir is a world renowned piper and performer, who hails from Dundee, Scotland, but spends much of his time flying off to such far flung places as Germany, China, Switzerland, The Faroe Islands as well as the US, the UK and Canada to perform, not only his own folk rock repertoire but as a member of two other Scottish bands, Gleadrhaich (Gaelic for Big Noise) and the newly formed Cabalistic Cavalry. Craig has personally played with Queen, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Libertines and The Bay City Rollers, and has performed, by request, for such luminaries as the Dalai Lama, HRH Queen Elizabeth, Arun Ghandi and Arnold Schwarzenegger and this July he will play for Michelle Obama in Edinburgh.The idea for the show, came out of late night discussions between members of Mariner\\u2019s Curse and Craig Weir, about the rich legacy of culture and music in Canada which has grown from the roots laid down by waves of immigrants from Scotland, Ireland and England, whose own traditions, history and struggles continue to inform and inspire the Canadian cultural melting pot.With immigration such a hot topic these days, the group felt it was important to focus on the positive and invaluable contributions that immigrant populations have had on our cultural heritage.The show takes the audience on a \\u2018musical voyage\\u2019 from distant Celtic origins to contemporary songs and tunes to new compositions which make up just part of Canada\\u2019s unique sound.
