b"The O'Toole, or \\xd3 Tuathail family, of Celtic stock, is from the southeast of Ireland, known as Leinster. It is an ancient family name traced back in Ireland to the Middle Ages. On May 17, 1848, the family of Patrick and Margaret O'Toole sailed for Quebec on board the Jessie. Starting out in the province of Ontario the family spread throughout Canada and the United States. Wherever they went they made an enormous contribution to their community and their adopted land. The family recently connected to its tenant homestead in Ballyshonogue, Tinahely, County Wicklow, Ireland, 175 years after their ancestors, Patrick and Margaret Doyle O'Toole, emigrated on May 17, 1848. This connection was accomplished after several years through the efforts of a handful of O'Toole descendants. Many genealogy records are now online, and it has become much easier to trace one's ancestry than just 30 years ago when we started this effort to connect to our distant past. It is rare, however, for an Irish family to trace their roots as we have done."
