He previously served on the Belfast City Council and as mayor of Belfast. Prior to 2019, the Belfast North constituency had always been held by Unionist MPs, but the demographics of the area have been changing in recent years. Born\\u200c \\u200cin 1980, John\\u200c Finucane served as the 64th mayor of Belfast in 2019 and also \\u200cworked\\u200c as a lawyer before\\u200c \\u200cbeing\\u200c \\u200celected\\u200c \\u200cto\\u200c Parliament.\\u200c \\u200c He is the son of the lawyer, Pat Finucane who was murdered at home by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989.'
