Future Oceans Creative Director Catherine LaroseFuture Oceans: Igniting a global community of designers spotlighting the ocean plastic crisisIn 2019, ten fashion designers were selected from an international design competition and featured in Future Oceans, a one-of-a-kind fashion show at the Victoria International Marina, that spotlights the ocean plastic waste crisis while proposing sustainable solutions.The designers spent 5 months creating wearable art pieces featuring reclaimed ocean plastic from beaches and oceans. They also launched ready-to-wear fashion lines using eco-friendly fabrics, which they debuted at The Bay Centre Victoria during their one month long Eco-Boutique. During this time, musicians worked on a Future Oceans soundtrack, and dancers from the Nanaimo Contemporary ballet produced the first Future Oceans dance performance titled \\u201cPlastic Whale\\u201d.
