Dr. Sheila Flanagan is the Head of Learning Development at the College of Arts and Tourism at the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). Before taking on this leadership role, her life in academia included serving as the Program Director of Master of Business Studies in Travel & Tourism at Smurfit Graduate Business School and as the Head of Tourism Department and the Head of School of Hospitality Management and Tourism at the Dublin Institute of Technology. Dr. Flanagan has a BA in Geography & Economics, and a Ph.D. in Applied Climatology, both from the University College Dublin.A native of Dublin, Dr. Flanagan has been a resident of Skerries for the last 15 years. Skerries, a fishing village voted one of the best places to live in Ireland, is beautiful coastal community 25 miles north of Dublin City. She is frequently to be found enjoying a seafood meal at her favorite restaurant \\u2013 Stoop Your Head \\u2013 or a glass of wine in her favorite bar on the harbor \\u2013 Joe May's Pub. Her favorite escape/hideaway is in the hills above Malaga in Spain.Dr. Flanagan\\u2019s involvement with ttra began when she joined the European Chapter as a member in 1996. Since that time, she has held several terms of office as a ttra European Chapter board member, including a stint as the Chapter President from 2003 to 2007. She served as Chair of two European Chapter conferences in Dublin (1998, 2013), and organized the European Chapter conference in Glasgow (2004). She remains actively involved in the European chapter and currently serves as honorary Treasurer.
