Kathleen Villiers-Tuthill is an Irish historical writer.Born and raised in Clifden, County Galway, Villiers-Tuthill is the author of six books and numerous articles on the history of West County Galway. In recognition of her contribution to the heritage of the county, she has received two Heritage Award from Galway County Council. The first in 2003 and in 2006 her book, Alexander Nimmo & The Western District, was granted Best Heritage Publication Award. Her latest book, A Colony of Strangers: The founding and early history of Clifden, was published in 2012. She is married with two sons. Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown\\u2019s non-stop flight across the Atlantic is a story of great heroism, courage and endeavour. The unexpected arrival of their Vickers Vimy plane at the Marconi\\u2019s Wireless Station, in Derrygimla, Clifden, on Sunday 14th June 1919, created tremendous excitement in the locality and made front-page news throughout the world.Kathleen has published a pocket-sized illustrated history booklet of the Alcock and Brown flight, giving details of the flight, background on the airmen and on the landing site, the Marconi Wireless Station.Kathleen has written numerous books about the region. http://connemaragirlpublications.com/kvt.htm
