Yesterday was Election Day. Primaries were held for a number of local offices including City Council and District Attorney in Queens and The Bronx.

The Indypendent’s Owen Schacht and Lydia Wei spoke with voters in Harlem who will be choosing a new City Councilmember in the most closely-watched race of the day. Incumbent socialist Kristen Richardson Jordan dropped out of the race earlier this spring though her name remains on the ballot. Here’s what votes were saying about the three remaining candidates: Inez Dickens, Yusef Salaam and Al Taylor.

Our reporters approached about 50 voters outside three different venues in Central Harlem. Of the 11 who spoke with us, right said they were voting for Yusef Salaam, 2 for Inez Dickens and 1 for Kristen Richardson Jordan. Salaam did in fact win yesterday’s race and will now represent District 9 in City Council.
