People usually don\'t like listening to \'old\' music, but house music is nothing like the rest ; ) The great thing about good house music is that if you\'ve never heard a track, then it\'ll be brand new to you. It\'s not like popular music where a song is in and out of fashion after a few months.

The greater thing is that because of DJ\'ing, even if you\'ve heard 80% of the separate tracks placed into a continuous mix, each DJ has his/her own particular tastes and style. You could take 100 tracks and give them to 10 different DJs and I\'d guarantee that each and every mix will give you a different feel and experience. You might dislike, like or love a particular mix.

Some DJs like more bass and some like me like hi-hats, so they\'d equalize each track differently to their preferences. Some like to play tracks at 120bpm and some like me like it a bit faster, around 125bpm. It depends on the tempo you like. I like the tempo that you can dance or chill out to. Then most of us get too excited and the second half of our mixes gets faster and faster and would probably end a few bpms faster than we would like.

Each of the 100 tracks would have different parts and sections. Each DJ would highlight different parts. Some like to play each track for 5-6mins to "let it breathe". I have house ADD, so like them in and out because the exciting parts are the beginning, the breakdown, and the new mix.

The mix is the beauty and art of it all. Each combination is unique and sometimes we get lucky and a combo elevates both tracks being mixed. Jim and I are best friends for 30yrs and spin live together as \'dattrax\'. We have a policy of NOT repeating mix combinations. It keeps it fresh and fun for us.

Then comes the style of the DJ, do they love long smooth mixes, where they layer two tracks and create a new feeling? Do they like to cut parts of a second track into the first? Do they like to start mellow and gradually take it up through the mix? Do they like to play the same sub-genre of house through a whole mix, or like Jimmy and I... love house so much that we play EVERY genre of house within a mix? The beauty, fun, and excitement of all the possibilities are endless. At the least, it\'ll put a massive smile over you face from ear to ear.
