Tommy Boy

I think it\'s fair to say that Tommy Boy might be one of the most quotable comedies of all-time. There\'s a certain lighting-in-a-bottle energy here that neither Farley or Spade were ever quite able to capture again. It\'s all the more impressive given the chaotic circumstances this was assembled under, the frequent bickering between the two leads, and the fact that a lot of this was being made up as they went along.

Although it\'s quoted endlessly, it had been a long time since any of us had actually seen the film. And for a couple of us, there were some interesting surprises.

Topics include: the project\'s origins as a buddy comedy for Chris Farley and Rob Lowe, how unessential Lowe\'s character now feels in this retooled version, some ideas on how to streamline the plot so that we get to the road trip faster and stay in that section longer, the difference between Tommy Boy and subsequent Farley/Spade vehicles, Farley\'s tragic death and how much promise he showed here, and much much more!
