There are a lot of things that have been overlooked with regard to the sudden onset of COVID-19 and if social media platforms want us all to think about a disease that pops out of nowhere, then it gets really dark and terrifying. Mutations that spring up suddenly are just one more way the world can end with a whimper rather than a major cataclysm.
