b'Logan Beausoleil is the Farm Educator at Prairie Crossing Learning Farm in Grayslake, IL. The Learning Farm is part of the larger conservation community which was designed to combine responsible development, the preservation of open land, and easy commuting by rail. He joined the Learning Farm in April 2010 as Crew Leader in the Prairie Farm Corps Program, and joined full time as a Farm Educator in August 2011. He has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Art from Augustana College, holds an Illinois teaching certification, and is currently working on his M.S. in Elementary Education at Quincy University. Logan works closely with the 5-8th grade teachers and students of the Prairie Crossing Charter School to integrate classroom learning with on-farm experiences. He also serves as an educator for the Prairie Farm Corps Program leading the educational workshops and team building activities, as well as assisting with the farm field work. Off the farm, Logan is an avid long distance runner and recently placed 55th out of 45,000 participants in the 2011 Chicago Marathon. Eric Carlberg joined the Learning Farm in March 2009 as the Program Director. He holds a B.A. in Theology from Capital University and a M.A. in Theological Studies from Chicago Theological Seminary, completing coursework in urban ministry, non-profit leadership, and eco-justice as well as a thesis on subsistence farming in ancient Israel. Erics background includes 7 years experience in social services, having worked as case manager for low-income senior citizens and as supervisor of a drop in center for people suffering from homelessness and addiction. Outside of his experience in the social service sector, Eric has spent much of his life doing physical labor, restoring back-country trails, managing the wood lot and labor team at Holden Village, and leading the harvest crew at Sandhill Organics. Eric strives to create meaningful and empowering work and educational opportunities at the Learning Farm, and believes in the power of food to create community. He expanded the Montessori School of Lake Forests adolescent farm program, shaped the Prairie Farm Corps from its inception, and collaborated with local churches to create the Community Gleaning Project. Eric also speaks Spanish. Zamir Mendez is a Prairie Farm Corps Crew Leader in his fourth summer working at the farm. He has continued to take on more leadership roles every year that he has come back and was a member the first year Prairie Farm Corps was established. He enjoys growing and harvesting organic vegetables. His future have been greatly influenced by working on the farm; he will be a freshman at Earlham College this fall and hopes to major in agriculture or environmental studies.
