And Deborah Ingle, for one, won\u2019t miss them.
Ingle, who\u2019s lived in public housing in Lawrenceville for six years, is thankful for the home she has and the community of which she\u2019s a part. But the floor plan in her unit isn\u2019t inviting, she said, and the kitchen doesn\u2019t have a dishwasher \u2013 something she misses sorely.

\u201cI\u2019m going to have a brand-new everything,\u201d said Ingle, 73. \u201cIt\u2019s like buying a brand-new house, which I have never done. How blessed can you get?\u201d
Efforts are being made across the state to upgrade existing public housing by renovating or building new homes and, in some cases, surrounding them with mixed-income communities. With oversight from housing authorities, private developers are building many of them with the help of tax breaks or other incentives.
