Simmons will defeat Alexis Williams and join the board at the start of 2023. She will replace Everton Blair, who did not seek reelection and endorsed Simmons.
Simmons has never served in elected office, but she has had a 20-year career in education.
This year\u2019s school board elections were the first to be nonpartisan in Gwinnett, Georgia\u2019s largest school district, because of legislation passed by Republican lawmakers.
