Jesus Christ Superstar - the early days
b'50 years ago the unknown pairing of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice recorded the first ever version of their rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. They had wanted to introduce the work on stage but no theatrical producers wanted to know. Thus forced to make a cast album before the show, they unintentionally discovered a new way to launch a musical theatre project, and created a work that was much more in tune with a younger audience than would otherwise have been the case. Tim chats about this and the management and record company teams that helped them get Superstar off the ground.
