In the space of just two weeks, the Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, will have met with two of the world\u2019s most powerful leaders \u2013 US president Joe Biden and China\u2019s president, Xi Jinping. And central to both meetings will be the Aukus deal: a historic defence agreement between the US, Australia and the UK designed to counter China\u2019s military rise in the Pacific.
