The name Lazarus - in Hebrew \\u201cEliezer\\u201d -\\xa0 means \\u201cGod helps.\\u201d Before Abraham had any sons, he had only one heir to his fortune: his steward, Eliezer. In Jewish tradition, Abraham\\u2019s steward, Eliezer of Damascus, was an angel. Lazarus, sitting outside the gate of the rich man, was an angel in disguise.
