In 1997 the Diegos interviewed the most controversial Soccer Australia/FFA boss of our generation, David Hill. \n\nDuring his reign Hill fought to de-ethnicise the local game in Australia, for Australia to be admitted into the AFC Confederation and to make the game mainstream in this country. \n\nWith so much hinging on the Socceroos qualifying for the World Cup in France in 1998, it was an all or nothing strategy for the ultimate change agent who football supporters and NSL club brokers of the time either loved or hated.\n\nFor the Diegos it was a big moment ....it's a little-known fact but we were offered the Socceroos' job by Hill and Soccer Australia before Terry Venables was appointed ...here's proof. \n\nEnjoy this Diegos' flashback to 1997 amigos.
