On today\u2019s episode of Greatest Games, in association with The Blizzard, we\u2019re joined by the leader of that mob over at The Guardian: it\u2019s Football Weekly host Max Rushden! He\u2019s here to talk about Cambridge United. Obviously.
In fairness, Max brings a cracking game to the table: Cambridge United 5-1 Bristol City from the 1989/90 FA Cup. This was the start of a hugely impressive run of form for the U\u2019s, as they went on to gain promotion and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup - feats they repeated a year later. They built this success on legendary manager John Beck\u2019s genius philosophy of: 1) every marginal gain is a necessity and 2) pump the ball down the channels. This philosophy took Bristol City to pieces and dragged Cambridge all the way to the verge of the Premier League\u2019s first ever season two years later.
