Steve Appel- University of Southwest | Faith and Family Come First

Steve Appel is the head baseball coach for the University of Southwest. Steve started his collegiate baseball career at Fort Scott Community College and ended up finishing his career at Division II University of Bridgeport. Upon graduating he started coaching at Bridgeport and was there from 2007-2009. In 2010, he accepted an assistant coaching position at Division II Oklahoma Panhandle State University and the following year took over as Head Coach. He was there until 2014 when he left and accepted the head coaching position at the NAIA Division I University of Southwest. In his career there he has accumulated 125 wins and in 2019 his team won 30 games which was the 3rd most in school history and most in 15 years.

In this episode, we discuss the programs Steve has been a part of and specifically how they were all in the rebuilding phases. Was it a coincidence, or his choosing? Steve talks about how he enjoys the rebuilding process and embracing the challenges and hardships that come along with it. He explains how he runs his programs and has brought them success during these rebuilding phases.

We also talk about the recruiting process he uses not only on players, but also on his assistant coaches and graduate assistants. As well as what he does to help them all excel once they\u2019re apart of his program.
