Ottawa will continue to maintain trade ties with China since the country is the second largest economy in the world, but as the speech outlined, the government is now seeking to diversify its trade relationships with countries in the region like India due to China's record on human rights, the reality that it ignores trade and investment rules and doesn't share the same values as Canada.
