Have a real conversation - Part 1

Published: April 9, 2022, 5 a.m.

In today's podcast we are joined by the brilliant Dr Emily Kieson Director of Research at the MiMer Centre and the equally brilliant Jessie Sams from Animal Behaviour and Trauma Recovery Service and behaviour consultant and research assistant at the MiMer Centre.

Kate had the pleasure of hosting Emily and Jessie at Conquest where they explored human - equine interactions in more detail. In this episode we discuss the importance of creating trusting relationships outside of the learning quadrant. Positive reinforcement is an effective tool for training and although we can sometimes believe that we are giving our horses choice, that choice is of our construct. How can we interact with our equines without an agenda, how can we start a conversation based on our horse's way of talking?

As always we didn't have enough time but we will be recording more with this fab duo!
