I had the pleasure to interview our 8th guest for 2024, Paris Cherry, originally from Boston, MA. Paris was born to parents both addicted to drugs and alcohol. Paris was taken from his parents by the state at 6 months old and given to his grandparents. Then at age 4 years old after his mother’s death and father’s incarceration, his grandparents gained full custody of him. Although Paris’s grandparents instill good values and faith in God, Paris struggled with issues of abandonment, rejection, anger, anxiety, and depression. During this time of his life, he received counseling but at the same time continued to struggle academically going from school to school. Until finally he discovered a passion and talent for the game of basketball. Basketball allowed Paris to connect with something that provided him with purpose and direction. Although Paris was one of the best players playing for one of the best high school teams. There was still something missing and Paris still struggled with emotional issues that soon led him to be kicked out of school, and from his grandparents’ home. But God had a plan for Paris and that was to turn his life around. Paris was recruited to a prestigious Basketball powerhouse and in 2000, Paris was named the best player in the state of New Hampshire then went on to play college basketball at Coppin St university in Baltimore MD. Fast forward, Paris served as a youth minister in Boston as director of Movement Ministries working with at risk and gang involved youth and as a community advocate. Currently Paris is a world respected NBA skills trainer and D-1 college coach who runs a Bible based basketball ministry. The Ministry program is called kingdom Hoops in Las Vegas Nevada. Paris will be sharing a little bit more about his story and how God continued to change his life.
