57 Xi's Dilemma

After forty plus years of economic expansion and growing prosperity, Chinese Present Xi Jinping finds himself in a dilemma. Economic growth has allowed China to regain much of its stature as a world power but only because the Chinese rejected communist ideals and principles to create a form of state capitalism with private companies and private property providing much of the dynamism of the economy. Creating an industrialized capitalist society was supposed to propel China from a weak, impoverished backwater incapable of the transformation to communism into an industrialized power ready to convert to communism. But conversion to communism would put China at a disadvantage to the dynamic and capitalist West. So President Xi must continue to guide China on a capitalist course in order to keep up with the West.
