EOC 105: What We Learned from Standing Rock and What Happens Next with Liz George and Ari Herman

Published: Jan. 18, 2017, 7 a.m.

Today’s guests on the show are Ari Herman and Liz George.  Ari and Liz both spent extended periods of time living at Standing Rock, North Dakota and participating in various ways in the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Liz has a background in wildlife filmmaking, while Ari - who contributed to our last podcast episode about Standing Rock - is a writer and an aspiring journalist.  Both of them were living at the camps at Standing Rock during what was probably the most tumultuous period of the movement thus far - from mid-November through early December. We talked with Liz and Ari about their personal experiences at Standing Rock, from the moment that they decided to go there, to the moment that they left after the Army Corp of Engineers denied the easement for the pipeline to cross the Missouri River.
