Lightning

Published: March 3, 2021, 11 a.m.

Lightning strikes the earths surface about 100 times every second...Brilliant flashes of hot white light flicker across an open prairie or beams of energy hit the worlds tallest building, flickers dance across an open lake while fisherman run for cover. Lightning while 5 times as hot as the surface of the sun, is only about 2 cm across and the white flash that we see light up the sky is the near gigajule (approximately one fuckton) of energy released from the negative particles in the cloud meeting the positive particles on the ground. In this episode we explore lightning and its physics, its applications, and its weirdness.
