Alexandra is a medical anthropologist, writer, and photographer based in Gothenburg, Sweden. A PhD candidate at Princeton University, her research focuses on the experimental development of neuroprosthetic technologies. Alexandra's research examines the ways scientists, doctors and amputee patients together develop and refine intimately integrated prosthetics coupled to nerves, muscles, and bones. Questions of embodiment, (inter)subjectivity, sensation, and relationality guide Alexandra's work. A West Coast native (San Francisco Bay Area and Bend, Oregon), Alexandra attended Duke University, where she graduated with a BA in cultural anthropology, minor in neuroscience, in 2013. Her undergraduate thesis research on a mountain village community's indigenous medical system in Togo, West Africa prompted her to switch from a pre-medicine track to anthropology as an alternative lens to explore health and the body. These interests eventually lead Alexandra to Princeton to pursue her PhD in anthropology, with a focus on feminist studies of science and technology. Interest in the body — and the multiple ways of being in one — are at the foundation of Alexandra's work and personal pursuits. Both her writing and photography have been recognised and awarded, nationally and internationally. Alexandra is also an endurance athlete (former competitive triathlete turned distance trail runner), former mindfulness-based cycling instructor, and certified yoga instructor who has been teaching yoga for five years. She is constantly seeking ways to explore and play with the intersections of mindfulness, movement, and writing. Instagram @liminalliety www.liminalliety.com This episode is sponsored by Palm Organix™.
