new sunday flava

b'I remember that I’d been wanting to lay down a soul session for a while. I’d done the odd soul tape, but found RnB difficult to beat mix as the bpms can vary so much.

Anyway, I’d just started going out with John L, whose best friend was something of a soul girl. Her birthday presented the perfect opportunity to get this recorded. I did it in one evening, but it took a few hours to perfect.

Between ’99 and perhaps ’05, soul / RnB / hiphop basically became chart-topping pop pap, so I’ve never really been inspired to revisit it for a dj mix. This session is anchored in earlier 90s tunes and includes some real gems - like Rajanee’s turn it up, which is still one of my favourite Sunday morning tracks.
