Jessica holds BAs in journalism and sociology from the University of\\xa0 Hawaii and an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from Portland State University. Born and raised in Hawaii by a father whose ancestors are indigenous to the land and a mother from the American South, Jessica wrestles with what it means to be "local." \\xa0 Her memoir, Local is Interwoven with a rich and nuanced exploration of\\xa0 Hawaiian mythology, Hawaiian history and traditions; a personal and moving narrative about family, grief, and reconnecting to the land she tried to leave behind.
