China Daily, a state-run Chinese news outlet, released financial documents showing that it spent millions of dollars for paid content or inserts at major U.S. news outlets including the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. The outlets have noted the content was labeled as \u201cadvertisement.\u201d
The China Daily inserts typically run under \u201cChina Watch,\u201d and in addition to being registered as a foreign agent under FARA in the United States, China Daily was listed by the U.S. government as a \u201cForeign Mission\u201d of the Chinese government.
And the \u201cCrossfire Hurricane\u201d investigations into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia are now turning into investigations into the investigators themselves. Top officials who helped launch the investigation may now be called on to testify, and risk jail sentences if wrongdoing is found.
