Dr. Sumner Norman, Brain Machine Interface Research

Dr. Norman is a postgraduate researcher in the lab of professors Richard Anderson and Mikhail Shapiro at the California Institute of Technology. He did his baccalaureate education in mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Utah. He was also an NSF graduate research fellow studying human-robot interactions.

His current work is in Brain-Human Interfaces (BMIs). Him and his team at Caltech recently published a seminal paper on a new technique poised to revolutionize the field of minimally invasive BMIs. They call it Functional Ultrasound, and it is a proof of concept in an effort to give the hope of mobility back to those suffering from paralysis.
