Antique Carved Ostrich Eggs
Guest: Tamar Hodos, Reader in Mediterranean Archeology, University of Bristol
Carved ostrich eggs were all the rage in the ancient Mediterranean. Not easy to get, as some unlucky servant would have to steal an egg from a giant jealous bird who could kill a human with a single kick. Then they had to be cured for many months and then carved. Ever tried to carve an eggshell?
