It was July 2019 and I found myself in a Washington D.C. high rise board room presenting to a conference room full of The Who’s who of Republican “King Makers”. It was Grover Norquist’s infamous Wednesday meeting of the wealthy donors and highly influential power brokers of the conservative right. In order to receive an invite to such a prestigious group of individuals, you had to pass their muster, in terms of being a credible candidate with the clout to win a seat in the House of Representatives.
