Republican strategist Steve Schmidt agrees that climate change is an economic concern but says it has to be addressed in a low cost fashion. \\u201cYou need to grow the economy in order to protect the environment,\\u201d says Schmidt, \\u201cthe fossil fuel economy and the energy companies have lifted more people out of poverty more than any other industry in the history of the world ever.\\u201d Lehane argues that \\u201cit has been the U.S. that has lead on global issues\\u201d and it is the U.S. that should lead in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
