b'An energy \\u201crenaissance\\u201d is happening in the U.S. and Rhonda Zygocki, Executive VP of Policy and Planning at Chevron, says it is \\u201cdriven by innovation\\u201d and the natural gas and oil reserves trapped in slate. This renaissance is not without its issues and Fred Krupp, President of the Environmental Defense Fund, warns that \\u201cwhile the economic benefits [of fracking] are obvious, the environmental implications of not doing this right in some cases are equally obvious.\\u201d Krupp warns that the fragmented nature of the industry makes it resistant to change and regulation. Zygocki walks us through some of the innovations and changes Chevron is introducing for safer and more efficient energy production. To find a way to reduce emissions in the future \\u201cwe need to look at solutions at scale,\\u201d says Zygocki who questions the ability of renewables such as solar to scale up in time. Krupp sees California as the future of renewable technology and says that there\\u2019s \\u201cnothing like a profit motive\\u201d to boost innovation.
