b'Fifer read by Classic Poetry Aloud:\\nhttp://www.classicpoetryaloud.com/\\nGiving voice to the poetry of the past.\\n\\n---------------------------------------------\\n\\nHe Lived a Life\\nby H Fifer \\n\\n\\nWhat was his creed? \\nI do not know his creed; I only know \\nThat here below, he walked the common road \\nAnd lifted many a load, lightened the task, \\nBrightened the day for others toiling on a weary way: \\nThis, his only meed; I do not know his creed. \\n\\nWhat was his creed ? I never heard him speak \\nOf visions rapturous, of Alpine peak \\nOf doctrine, dogma, new or old: \\nBut this I know, he was forever bold \\nTo stand alone, to face the challenge of each day, \\nAnd live the truth, so far as he could see \\nThe truth that evermore makes free. \\n\\nHis creed? I care not what his creed; \\nEnough that never yielded he to greed, \\nBut served a brother in his daily need; \\nPlucked many a thorn and planted many a flower ; \\nGlorified the service of each hour; \\nHad faith in God, himself, and fellow-men; \\nPerchance he never thought in terms of creed; \\nI only know he lived a life, in deed!'
