This week, a conversation with filmmaker Cheryl Dunye.\\xa0 Dunye first emerged in the 1990\\u2019s as part of the \\u201cQueer New Wave\\u201d, and much of her work explores questions of race and gender, using her own experience as a lens.\\xa0 Her debut feature film, \\u201cThe Watermelon Woman\\u201d, is now considered a classic of queer cinema, and her style \\u2013 a mixture of documentary aesthetic and fictive elements \\u2013 has earned the term \\u201cDunyementary\\u201d.\\xa0 Her films, including a collection of her documentary shorts, were recently added to the Criterion Channel. More recently, Dunye has directed television shows including \\u201cDear White People\\u201d, \\u201cQueen Sugar\\u201d, and \\u201cLovecraft Country\\u201d.\\xa0 On November 16, 2020, Cheryl Dunye talked with Ra Malika Imhotep, in a conversation co-presented with the Criterion Channel.
