Virginia Hall Goillot\xa0DSC,\xa0Croix de Guerre,\xa0MBE\xa0(April 6, 1906 \u2013 July 8, 1982), code named\xa0Marie\xa0and\xa0Diane,\xa0was an\xa0American\xa0who worked with the\xa0United Kingdom's clandestine\xa0Special Operations Executive\xa0(SOE) and the\xa0American\xa0Office of Strategic Services\xa0(OSS) in\xa0France\xa0during\xa0World War II. The objective of SOE and OSS was to conduct\xa0espionage,\xa0sabotage\xa0and\xa0reconnaissance\xa0in occupied Europe against the\xa0Axis powers, especially\xa0Nazi Germany. SOE and OSS agents in France allied themselves with resistance groups and supplied them with weapons and equipment parachuted in from England. After World War II Hall worked for the\xa0Special Activities Division\xa0of the\xa0Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).\xa0\xa0
